I use the Thai Futurlec website for a few products. I stumbled across this cheap touch sensor and purchased a few in my last order: http://www.futurlec.com/Touch_Pad.shtml It will take 5V or 3.3V, so it will easily interface with a RPi or Arduino.
A red LED turns on when it sensors a touch, so giving a handy visual indication. It's small and comes with vertical connector socket that sits 17mm off the back. Mind you, it wouldn't be too difficult to de-solder it and replace it with a different connector.
I think this will be a handy sensor in a few projects.
