Adventures in desoldering... I now need a new barrel jack!
also, does anyone have any advice as how to better desolder?

Re: DJCoopes Project Blog
Great to see you online! Keep the projects coming
Re: Barrel connectors, a hot air soldering station might help. With the appropriate nozzle, it allows you to spread or concentrate the heat in a particular area. Jaycar or Aliexpress sell them.
Re: 3D print guess: 1) A miniature representation of an AM radio? 2) SD card holder?
Did you design these parts your self? What kind of 3D printer?

Re: DJCoopes Project Blog
Yes, all of these models are 100% original,
and they were made in a combo of Autodesk 123D Design and Google Sketchup Make,
and were Printed with my Schools XYZ DaVinci Pro 2.1 3D Printer
I hope to eventually buy myself a Tevo Tarantula, as the DaVinci has poor layer adhesion for larger prints.
Also, thanks for the advice on desoldering

Re: DJCoopes Project Blog
Excellent Work DJ, well maybe not so much on the desoldering
I do a bit of design work, mainly in Fusion360.
Hopefully we can meeting up at SWMakers sometime soon.

Re: DJCoopes Project Blog
Yeah, Meeting up would be cool, but the last time I attempted to attend a meeting, it was cancelled a few minutes after I arrived at the location. (it was actually the first permanently cancelled meeting in Busselton, the 26th of May) So would It have to be an Eaton Meetup?

Re: DJCoopes Project Blog
Well done on the video. It looked like the video was tearing along the bottom a bit. Stripping and cleaning a keyboard is quite time consuming!
Re: DJCoopes Project Blog
Thanks! I think the tearing at the bottom is because i had the video recording to auto-rotate, so i will just manually rotate it in post-production next time. and yes, it did take a long time; About 2.5 hours for filming, and about 6 hours for editing (on a laptop as my desktop is currently undergoing some maintenance (this creates a lot of slow loading and exporting/rendering)).

Re: DJCoopes Project Blog
Sorry, I missed the de-soldering question.
Yes, solder wick is good. You can also get a solder sucker. It's a hand held device that when triggered, will suck up molten solder from the tip of the soldering iron. Happy to demo if you want.

Re: DJCoopes Project Blog
PS: A hot air gun is maybe the easiest de-soldering method, but that's not as cheap as the above methods.
