Electronic Laser Target Alignment System

Post by parkview » Mon Jun 07, 2021 7:53 pm

It occurred to me the other day that I hadn't seen a hobbyist level electronic laser beam alignment device. I have designed up a simple electronic target PCB to test my theory out. In real life, it will need a lot more sensors, but first I need to cheek if the laser will destroy the IR sensor. This is all very exciting. I have ordered 2 types of through hole IR sensors, and 3 types of SMD IR sensors. This PCB will work with both types. I am thinking I will use an Arduino Mega as the MCU to see what kind of response the IR receiver sensors give to a 10% 60W laser beam. Below, you can see the two styles of IT Sensors on the PCB, only one type will be fitted though:

It's being made with a white solder mask and I have included a DS18B20 SMD IC on the back to try and measure the PCB temperature. I have also ordered two kinds of partial mirrors that could be placed in front of the sensors to protect them a bit. The sensors are all black, so I presume the IR might heat that up a bit?
