I was given an old fax to tear down, and
this was the most useful thing I could come up with at short notice...
This old 1994-6 FAX was full of custom FPGAs so was totally useless for anything hackable, plus the thermal printer was cooked.
Introducing: "The wind up FAX light"

It works really well for what it is, read the blog
hereCheers

Supposed it bepends on the milliamperes it can output. iPhones are picky about charging on any less than their required minimum..

It seems to output around 2A short circuit, so at 5V it's 400mA at a good "wind". I am about to test it with my HTC and see how it goes.

Most android phone will charge in a 500ma charger but the iPhone tend to like 1000ma or better and the iPads need even more.
I've got a very similar motor from photocopier. Might put this one on the soon list.

yes Stephen, but it's all about the build. It's always about the build
