RaspberryPi v3 WiFi Antenna Mod

Post by BeJay » Sat Mar 19, 2016 9:29 am

Hi Guys,

I got my Pi3 yesterday, and couldn't help wondering if I could get an SMA connector on there to use an external antenna. Well it seems it isn't that hard to get on there and remove the built in antenna. I will do some range tests and see how it goes. So far It is at least 3dB better (twice as good) from the shed to the house, so I'll take it down to the park and do a long range test.

haven't had a chance to play with mine yet, but I hadn't even thought of adding in a SMA connector. Be interesting to see what usable range you get there.

150m is pretty good. Do you have measurements pre-mod?

Pre-mod was 50-60m. Not bad for board mount!

Wow three times the distance - that's a worthy upgrade!
