Have your say in shire of Dardanup's New MakerSpace

Post by seaton » Tue Nov 04, 2014 1:09 pm

(repost of my original Email to the Group)

G’day Makers,

I’m excited to announce that we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to:

1) Get ongoing access to a 24x7 purposely built maker space that will be part of the new Eaton Library currently under advanced planning (think next 12-18months away), a perfect home for the SW Makers.

2) (the fun part) we also get a say in what we would like to get it kitted out with, i.e. 3D printers, Laser Cutters, Robotics, Raspberry Pi/Arduino Lab etc. what else? Think Blue Sky Stuff here, big wish list items as we probably wont get another chance again to go shopping again.

What type of 3D Printers? Sizes?
What Type of Laser Cutter? Size? Wattage?
Robotics, any educational kits worth looking at, i.e. Lego Mindstorm etc.
What Else?

Sooooo.......

We urgently need ideas on equipment, make/Model, costings, weblinks to Australian Suppliers would be very helpful, unfortunately we need them yesterday as grants are being applied for right as we speak and closes soon.

Sue Parora, also a member on this list is managing the project for the Shire of Dardanup and if you have any questions either Myself or Sue will try to answer.

I will also open up a topic on the Forum so you can post ideas.

Disclaimer: Both Sue and I are employed by the Shire of Dardanup

Regards,

Stephen...

- Secure Storage areas, ie lockers for projects and personal tools etc.
- Mindstorms are good for basic robotics and can be arduino/Pi integrated.
- Soldering Stations/irons - say ten pack
- Raspberry Pi c+ x10 (they mght be out by then)
- Large Television for presentations (say 65"), or a projector but I like TV's better.

This is What we have already down on the list for the room, however add any room spec requirements that you feel needs to be included as well as it's not concrete yet.

This is the maker/Tech area only, there are additional common use meeting rooms adjoining/accessible to the tech space.

Specialist Areas
o Makerspace- 30m2 :
 3-D Printers/Scanner
 Laser cutting
 Robotics
 Tech hacking
 Future tech
 High and low workbenches with safe power outlets.
 Soundproof and well-ventilated. Ventilation cabinets.
 All of floor linoleum/wet area.
 Industrial sink/tubs.
 Lockable storage cabinets for equipment- soldering irons, pliers and handtools. Potentially hazardous chemicals.
 Glass fronted and lockable entry from library- highly visible.
 24/7 access either externally or through foyer. Access to toilets.
