Science Spectacular
Seeing it's just around the corner, and with 3D printers multiplying in the group, how about we print off some of these to give away on the day http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:362357/ We can add our website in the area for name/phone.

Re: Science Spectacular
Sounds like a plan.... I was thinking we could also do a few key ring tags of our new logo, when we get one.
Re: Science Spectacular
I supposed we should have a discussion about what we are doing on that day.
I was thinking of maybe making a small aquarium aquaponics demonstration for the day.
I'm sure Paul has some details for us....
I assume we've secured a spot this year.
Who can make it?

Re: Science Spectacular
I can definitely make it because I go to school there.
I know everything about nothing.
Re: Science Spectacular
Yes, I have submitted the paperwork two weeks ago and had a meeting with one of the teachers last week. She said we should be able to have the same room as we had before. It also comes with tables and power etc.
It should be a good event again. Last year there where some 5,000+ visitors in 7 hours. It was a great way to meet LOTs of interesting people.

Re: Science Spectacular
Nice find on the thingiverse part there Stephen. I will have a try at printing it this evening.
Ok, I had a try at just the std stl file using Simplify3D, but at 0.85mm thick, it didn't like to be peeled off a hot bed. Also, Simplify3D didn't like to process some of the finer details. Looks cool though. It would be interesting to try and recreate the 1960's and 1970's breakfast cereal plastic do-dads that companies use to include in their packets. Here is a sample: http://cratercr.ipower.com/page8.html This site only seems to have page of this type, but there seemed to be many of them when I was a young lad.
Perhaps it could be scaled up a bit before printing. DesignSpark couldn't adjust the downloaded step file, or at least not that i have been able to see.

Re: Science Spectacular - 2013
Hi,
for those that didn't attend the 2013 event, here are a few photos I managed to snap off during a lull:
Stephen had his Felix printer working through out the event which draw quite the crowd.
there was one other member there with a table of line following robots.
PS> sorry about the double photo, it's an error with phpBB and doesn't show up in the text of the forum!

Re: Science Spectacular
Thought I'd knock up a few of these as well as the other luggage tags
Re: Science Spectacular
That looks nice Phillip. Your design or Thingiverse?
Re: Science Spectacular
Thingyverse, Can't claim this one. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:151118
I'm still working on my first custom tool holder. It takes a little while to learn what works and what doesn't in terms of printing.

Re: Science Spectacular
So what's the gernal rundown for the Science Spectacular?
Who is bringing what?
I'm wondering, so I can get an idea of what to bring down other than my 3D printer and Picade?
What hands on kiddie things do you have? I'm thinking of making something during the week if I get a chance.

Re: Science Spectacular
I'm bringing my RPi and Television. I have a movie to play about the maker movement.
I will have my 3d printer, my metho stove project and information on the aquaponics.
I'm also just about to start the "Maker Trainer" RC plane project. I I get anywhere along the road, I'll bring what I've done.
I'm also printing a few MagPi magazines to put on the table.

Re: Science Spectacular
Sweet!
Has anyone made up some sort of lanyard 3D printed thing so we can be official SW makers?

Maybe I could print some of these, http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:216385
and make up an ID for each of us with some info on it. I sawofficewrks have a spring clip lanyard for id's when i was last there.
I'll put it on the list
Re: Science Spectacular
Hows this for an idea?
