While in China last year (2024), I needed a bench power supply that could output more than 18A and operate up to 48V, plus I wanted to be able to record current flow. I looked at a few different models on line, but it was difficult to find the specs on the recording frequency, eg: how often would it output the instantaneous current being used? While I wanted to buy a Rigol power supply these figures where not readily available, or difficult to interpret. Luckily I stumbled on a set of
Python scripts for the Riden RD6006/RD3012/RD6024 bench power supplies, so I went with the RD6024. This can output up to 24 amps at up to 60 volts. I am so impressed that I can control the power supply remotely via USB C connector from my laptop, ie: I can set the voltage and current, switch it on/off and I can query the current and voltage being used every hundredth of a second all via a Python script.
I was so impressed that I purchased one for myself and lugged it back home in my luggage. I can finally put my old home built bench power supply into storage.
Note: the RD6024 can only set and monitor current in 10mA intervals, while the RD3012 can go down to 1mA.
