Re: Exploring Ideal Diodes

As I mentioned above, I have found three different Ideal Diode circuit diagrams on line (note the resistor values in #1 and #2), these are: 1) ideal-diode-schematic.jpg 2) ideal-diode-schematic2.jpg 3) ideal-diode-schematic.3.jpg These are all based on a transistor current mirror arrangement. I have...

Re: X27.168 Low Power Stepper Motor

One thing I noticed playing around with ESP32 PWM channels is that they seem to effect each other. I noticed this when I set a 4KHz on channel 0 for the on board buzzer. I played a the tone, then set a 1KHz PWM frequency on channel 1. The motors move ok (now), but when I played the buzzer tone again...

Re: X27.168 Low Power Stepper Motor

So my ESP32 Arduino program was using the ledcWrite() function to output 1.2KHz PWM at a 50% duty cycle. There was nothing listed in the datasheet about maximum pulse length, only the that it had to be at least 450nSec. At 1200Hz with a 50% duty cycle, my negative going pulse was something like 417u...

Re: X27.168 Low Power Stepper Motor

The controller PCB arrived the other day. I laser cut a paste solder stencil out and made up the PCB. It turned out rather well: controller_sml.jpg Above, I am testing out the software. My first version based on my understanding of the datasheet it didn't turn out well. It says the Max Frequency is ...

Re: WS2812 - Neopixel LED Strip PH 2A Connector

The WS2812 to JST PH connector PCB arrived this week. I made a few up this afternoon. It didn't take long, as I only placed the PH connector and a 22uF SMT onto the PCB: WS2812-connector3.jpg Then a quick solder job to attach a strip of 12mm wide WS2812 RGB LEDs. To keep the LED strip in place, I he...

Re: X27.168 Low Power Stepper Motor

So, with the motor mount PCB off being manufactured, it's time to ponder making a controller PCB to connect to the motor PCB's. My thinking at the moment is to have the AX1201728 IC being controlled by a cheap MCU that will be incorporated on the controller PCB. The MCU will act as an i2C slave devi...

X27.168 Low Power Stepper Motor

Back in early October 2021, Stephen put me onto a rather nifty little Stepper Motor, behold the: X27.168. X27.1-front.jpg and the backside, with the two coil connectors: X27.1-back.jpg It's about 30mm across and about 9mm tall. The spindle can rotate reputably at 600 degrees/second at 5V and drawing...

WS2812 - Neopixel LED Strip PH 2A Connector

I love the JST PH connector. It's very versatile and compact. You can get it in surface mount SMD, or Through Hole package. It's rated for 100V, 2A. If you need more current, then there is the JST XH connector. It's rated for 250V, 3A. There are even higher rated connectors, but I haven't had a need...

Re: Electronic Parts Storage

Yay! It took 2 days for me to figure out how to write an edit function for my simple Parts Management Database! This is just kludged and hacked together Python code until it worked. A lot of wasted time wondering why it wasn't working as per on-line examples - until I realised that my Input fields n...

Re: Remote Weather Station

While I started designing up a 10cm x 10cm cheap Beta version with some weather station sensors and a STM32L151RE MCU, I quickly hit the silicon shortage snag and found that if you can find MCUs, prices have gone through the roof. A MCU I purchased back in 2019, is now five times the price. I now ha...

Remote Weather Station

What does the words: Remote Weather Station conjure up in your mind? In mine, it's a weather station way out off the main road on the Nullarbor desert. This will be a many phased project - each phase building on the previous one as I learn and experiment along the way. Something like this: Beta: jus...

While not Makerspaces, I did visit the Goolwa and Victor Harbor Libraries. These both hosted 3D printers from which the public could come in and print out things they had designed or downloaded from the Internet. This is the Goolwa Library printer: Goolwa.jpg The Victor Harbor Libraries has a volunt...

Visiting Four out of Five Adelaide Makerspaces

In August/September 2021 I spent six weeks in and around Adelaide. Before I left, I looked up all the Maker/Hacker spaces I could find with the idea I would set out to visit as many as I had spare time to stop by. 1: Adelaide Makerspace Web: https://makerspaceadelaide.org/ This is the largest of the...

Today I upload the next PCB revision design to JLCPCB to manufacture. This will fix a couple of wiring issues and will include a MPU-6050 accelerometer, so the board will be able to rotate the text depending on which way your mounting the unit. I am also trialling a ESP32-C3 MCU. This is being bille...

Exploring Ideal Diodes

I have used some Ideal Diode circuits in a few projects now, but have found that they leak a reverse voltage back through the Diode (MOSFET). Scouring the Internet, I have found three different designs all based around the idea of turning off a MOSFET if there is no voltage on one side of the MOSFET...

Re: Throttle Boddy Driver

Love the GIF! How are you driving the flap position? If it's a variable resistor, or an encoder, have you looked at the values to see if there is an instability/fluctuation in the incoming data? Maybe displaying the data in the Arduino Serial plotter might help to make sure it's linear?
