Ah, we are ALL on the Big-Escalator-of-Life. Some either a few steps up, or a few steps below ;) As long as we all enjoy the journey!

Re: ATtiny85 Backpack

Thats a pretty handy resource BeJay. Yes, talking of lazy, before the RPi, I did a lot of work using PICAXE chips: http://www.picaxe.com/ they use a nice high level language and are still relatively cheep.

Re: Z80 Computer on Altera Cyclone III FPGA DE0 3C16 board

I had an add on CP/M board for my 1978 Tandy Model I - TRS-80, along with a text to speech synthesiser. There where many happy years playing around with that system.

It does handle the printing for you too. You just have to load in the STL file, position it and click print. Well, it's nearly that easy ;-)

Re: Bar LED's

not that I know of. Its rated at 12V to 14V, so i can run it straight from a 12V SLA battery. Or, you could run it from a 240V to 12V switched inverter, perhaps something like a dx.com: 273895, which is rated a 20W. It is rather bulky though, at 165mm long, x 20mm high x 30mm wide. I just had anothe...

love too. They are a handy tool to have around, as they let you see into the 'black box'.

For all those interested in or wanting to know more about Simplify3D software, I stumbled across this review recently: http://www.fabbaloo.com/blog/2014/7/20/ ... simplify3d

Oscilloscopes

I have a largish 100MHz Tectronics 465B o'scope which I picked up at an auction for $100 back in 1990 when I worked in San Jose, California. It's my pride and joy as I use to use them a lot back in the '70's and '80's when I was in the Navy. However, it does take up a lot of desk real-estate, so I d...

Tablet Computers

I have donated my iPad 1to my mother-in-law and the new ones don't come out for a months yet. I just happened to stumble across a 7" Pendo Pad in the Bunbury Office Works for $69! I presumed at that price it wasn't going to be the fastest tablet on the block, but boy it was cheep. It turns out,...

Sure beats building one from actual hardware. Your progressing well.

Yes, I have that book too, along with a suite of 8080, Z80 and CP/M programming books. Books where very precious things BTI (Before The Internet).

Bar LED's

my new 18W 200mm x 10mm cool white bar LED just arrived today from dx.com: m It's a beauty! 18W_LED-1.jpg hopefully it will be enough for my Doc-Pi project. Here it is all lit up in an action shot: 18W_LED-2.jpg Although it's 200mm long, the LED section is only 160mm long. It does have versatile 2 x...

Re: Z80 Computer on Altera Cyclone III FPGA DE0 3C16 board

Hi Shane, LOL 'Bank Selecting'. I love it. I have a few wonderful Z80 based QX-10 Epson computers that had 256K of RAM that used bank selecting to operate. It's a great computer that I couldn't throw away, perhaps for sentimental reasons as I did so many hardware and software projects back in the ea...

Hi, for those that didn't attend the 2013 event, here are a few photos I managed to snap off during a lull: 2013_SW-Science-Spectacular_1.jpg Stephen had his Felix printer working through out the event which draw quite the crowd. 2013_SW-Science-Spectacular_2.jpg there was one other member there wit...

anything interesting on the login screen? You could video the text as it scrolls up the screen so you can replay at your leisure. Did you leave a script running via /etc/rc.local and therefore it's not taking keyboard input? Been there done that before. Need to put the script into the background by ...

Yes, I have already ordered mine I see that the A+ will be released in a few months time, once existing A stock has been sold off. I will pick up once of those too just for the lower power usage. Nice to see they are working on version 2.0 as well. Meant to be released in a few years time, but that'...

Re: Doc-Pi

Did you draw up the parts? What was the CAD app you use again? Yes. I use the free DesignSpark Mechanical: m Seems to work for me. First up it appeared to have a few quirks, but if you actually RTFM, it mostly covers off on things. It's now a joy to use. I have trialled FreeCAD, but my PC had issue...
