Re: Catch the Magic - Santa Catcha

Nice one! My young bloke loves scratch. I gave him a pi that we shoehorned into an old honey pot with a DC-DC converter an audio amp + speaker to run from the 12V network. He did a similar thing with a webcam using it to sense movement and take a pic. Was only 320x240 though. Worked a treat as his d...

Sure is noisy, but worth the risk when you can make pretty cool stuff out of everyday materials!

Re: XYZ Carve - Aussie version of an X-Carve

Sorry I haven't got back to your comments, I've been flat out again. Yes this is a big girl. I was going to get a 300x300mm but thought this would be much more versatile than just for doing PCBs (which is what I wanted it for). This is 1000x1000mm and can cut 790x790mm. The clearance is 50mm to the ...

Re: YAPP - PiCluster

That is a lot of pi! Love to see how your cluster performs. It's something I've wanted to do too, but couldn't find a justifiable cause for SWMBO to allow the purchase

Re: Doc-Pi

That is tidy! Nice work.

For a 30W load, just use a MTP3055 or equiv MOSFET. It won't even get hot at that load ;)

Re: Gimbal Motor

At a guess I'd say it's a BLDC motor, so you can hook it up anyway you like, and then just reverse 2 of the 3 wires to change the direction or do it in the software setup on the controller most likely. http://bjshed.better-than.tv/projects/electronics/misc/4-pole-bldc-motor021804.gif

Re: XYZ Carve - Aussie version of an X-Carve

Had some time today to wire up the steppers and move it. It's alive-ish. Need to finish the 240 wiring and fit a breaker etc. Such a lot of wiring to go and testing / calibration. Progress though. http://bjshed.better-than.tv/projects/3D/XYZ_Carve/large_slides/2015-09-29_15-54-35.jpg

Re: Non-Newtonian Fluids

First look, It looked like it was lower than the 15R it's used to I cooked a Class A that way as it was designed for a 15R load not 8R. Just wondering if you fell for that or it was a age factor for the failed components.. I must do this Non-Newtonian experiment again with my 1200W mono block and po...

Re: Text in FreeCAD

I used inkscape when I first got my printer to do text, but this is so much easier and faster than that. Inkscape has a plugin that raises the text by x amount on the Z. Only outputs as stl, so some artifacts occur when trying to tinker with it in other software. I also used to use OpenSCAD, but sti...

Re: Valves

It just leaked in some air through the not quite sealed tip over time. The getter has been flashed, but it's contents has been recombined with air and left a tiny skim of titanium oxide, where it flashed onto the glass. This is in a 50 year old radio gram that otherwise works fine. I'm trying to sou...
