CNC Spindle Update
Hi All, Ive just replaced the motor on my spindle to get get more RPM, before I was getting around 10,000RPM, for drilling PCB with the small drills is not really enough, increasing th spindle speed will also allow me to increase my feeds. So I swapped out the motor with a brushless 3650-2050KV moto...

Re: Favourite Blogs and Maker Sites?
hmmm too many to list. every time I find an interesting site I add the feed to my feedly list and it gets categorised so is rather large. Main reads currently similar to BJ's some key other ones from memory These are purely Makerish in nature and then I have heaps of others for robotics, RPi, 3DPrin...

Re: 80W Chinese Laser Cutter Commissioning
Over the weekend I installed a beam combiner A beam combiner is used to combine visible red laser pointer with the main beam so the red dot appears on the surface of your work and can see where its login to cut. The Chinese laser cutters come with a laser pointer connected to the head and adjusted s...

80W Chinese Laser Cutter Commissioning
New 80W Chinese Laser cutter arrived last week from eBay...took approximately a week and a half to be shipped from Sydney, Jo my partner purchased it for her business and (cough cough) other maker activities . So yesterday I got a chance to set things up and commission it. This thing was very well p...

We have at least one....
We have permission to use Eaton Library, but will talk to the Manager of Community Services to make sure. They were keen to become involved and get community involvement if we run any more workshops

Re: CNC PCB calibration
Here are couple more zoomed out on the feed and speed test pattens based on procedure outlined here m I start of at 50mm/min @50um (0.050mm) depth of cut then increase the feed speed by 50mm/min each time up to 400mm/min, then do all again for both 75um depth and again at 100um depth. The Vbit by it...

Looking good!
Definitely works at the bigger sizes no problems. I think the finer SMD is a challenge no mater what even on my CNC

Results of incorrect feeds for various end mills. I've gone through a few getting this up and running, if you look them side ways they'll break lol 20160923-000320-553.png 20160923-000337-415.png 20160923-000357-279.png 20Deg V-Bit good tip is 0.1mm this one dropped on floor and now no good. 2016092...

Re: CNC PCB calibration
Here you can see that the fine tipped V-Bit does not like faster feed speeds as it starts to deflect and not cut properly, sort of bounces over the surface.
At my fasted speed I was testing, not really cutting at all

Here the same feeds and speeds as above, however are optically zoomed in even closer on the microscope, I love this microscope .
You can see where the last test ended and new bit changed

more along the lines of Pauls posts but with my CNC for PCB isolation milling. I finally got the Microscope set up so I could do some measurements of some feeds, speeds and depth of cut calibration cuts using different bits Bits Im using are 20 Deg Engraving VBit 0.6mm PCB Cutter 0.4 end mill You ca...

CNC Resources for PCB generation
Here is a list of resources relating to milling your own PCB via CNC m open source CNC controller supporting GRBL and TinyG controllers, this is something you load the GCode into and then it sends to your CNC device. Ive tried both GRB and TinyG. TinyG seems more supported and has some more features...
