Re: Uses for an old FAX - The FAX Light

It seems to output around 2A short circuit, so at 5V it's 400mA at a good "wind". I am about to test it with my HTC and see how it goes.

Re: Oscilloscopes

That looks pretty good for what it is. I have a hacked RIGOL DS1052E 50Mhz DSO that I software hacked to 100Mhz using Dave's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnhXfVYWYXE It does everything I've needed so far, but it would be nice to have a USB scope, so I will be sure to check it out! Cheers B...

Re: Simplify3D review

It only slices right?

The latest version of slic3r seems pretty rock stable to me, I would love to see what this can do for the cost of 4 x rolls of filament that sli3r can't do? Just thinking out loud here from a maker / starter here... I shall try the demo and see what all the fuss is about ;)

Uses for an old FAX - The FAX Light

I was given an old fax to tear down, and this was the most useful thing I could come up with at short notice... This old 1994-6 FAX was full of custom FPGAs so was totally useless for anything hackable, plus the thermal printer was cooked. Introducing: "The wind up FAX light" http://bjshed...

For a laugh, try powering it from the +5V on the GPIO. I had an issue with a polyfuse in low temp on a pi once....

Re: Doc-Pi

Yes I do love FeeCAD, it works fine on LinuxMint14 and now 17. I'm using version 0.14 rev 3618 GIT. The only issues I've really had are with text. FreeCAD requires you to draft text and import it into the "PART" section wich can be fiddly. I use inkscape for text and import it into FreeCAD...

3D Printed Record Lathe

Started building a Record Lathe to cut analogue audio into old CDs and play them on a coventional turntable / record player. http://bjshed.better-than.tv/projects/audio/record_lathe/large_slides/IMG_6014.JPG So far it's working quite well. I'm going to heat the needle next to get it to cut cleaner t...

On a side note, why "doens't" this forum underline my "speeling" mistakes like every other text entry form? Might be my OS, but I doesn't think so as JOSN is fully supported....

Re: 3D Printing Software

I use Slic3r as it rocks on linux anyway. This with FreeCAD 0.14 does all of my creation needs. Give it a go as it is open source and free to download and at least give it a crack.

Re: Irfrared Library

It is very handy, getting rid of those uneeded remotes and having a universal remote that doesn't need batteries to keep it alive after teaching it each button is priceless.

Irfrared Library

Hi Guys, I made a universal remot the other day and thought I'd share the great library that made it all possible very quickly. Basically you can use the demo receiver project and a 3 terminal 38khz IR detector to "read" your remote and work out what code it uses. My DVico usb remote uses ...

Re: Tell us about yourself

Hi Everyone, Im Bejay - aka Beau. I used to live in Busso for 20 odd years, so I thought I'd join this group - at some point I'll make it down there again but at the moment I'm busy at work up here in Perth, so hopefully I can help out with some techincal knowhow from my shed (via the internet) and ...
